About our crazy name

When we were new parents, and thought of ourselves as basically cool chicks who just happened to have a kid, we discovered an interesting phenomena which you might be able to relate to: we'd make a simple plan with another cool couple who didn't have a kid. Two minutes before we were supposed to be at the restaurant or whatever, we'd have to call and cancel our plans. Our friends, reasonably dismayed, would ask why? Phone still in hand, we'd look down at the floor and see a creature somewhat resembling our once adorable child, only now they were purple, rigid, foaming at the mouth, and making a sound like something between stray cats fighting and a car alarm. Dumbfoundedly we'd mutter into the phone, “PsychoBaby”.

And you know, as “different” of an experience as that was for a couple of hipster rookie parents, looking back, we wouldn't trade a second of it.

As you can probably tell by now, Psychobaby is a different kind of kids' store. We celebrate individuality rather than conformity, creativity rather than convention. Why shouldn't children have the same cool, funky fashion choices that big people have? We wanted to create a place that respected kids' unique expressiveness, a place where the stuff was so interesting we'd wear it ourselves (if we could fit into it.)

So far, so good.

We've made it through the "terrible twos," and, entering our third year, are now standing firmly on our own rebellious little feet. And what a footprint we've created! The simple PsychoBaby vision of being the brand that is synonomous with the most interesting stuff for the most free-thinking kids, and our mission to provide it in the most fun knowledgeable environment, has certainly taken hold in Chicago and beyond.

From irreverent limited edition t-shirts to the most uniquely thought out selection of clothing, shoes, toys and books all in one place, there is excruciating attention and effort spent on every detail of the kids' collection. In this way, we ensure that only the coolest of the cool makes it through to our awesome customers.
